Start Your Australian Work Journey with Subclass 482

Turn Your Experience Into an Australian Opportunity

Have an Australian employer ready to sponsor you? The Skills in Demand Visa (Subclass 482) can allow eligible skilled workers to live and work in Australia for their sponsoring employer. Whether your background is in healthcare, technology, engineering, construction, education, hospitality or another eligible skilled occupation, your experience may open the door to employer-sponsored work. At Sheen Migration, we help you understand the requirements and navigate the visa process based on your individual circumstances.

You do not necessarily have to make the move alone. Eligible family members may be able to join you in Australia, with partners and dependent children generally able to live, work and study subject to the relevant requirements. We guide you through the sponsorship, nomination and visa application stages, helping you understand what is required at each step. Depending on your circumstances, Subclass 482 may also form part of a longer-term pathway towards permanent residency.

Subclass 482 Eligibility

What Do You Need to Qualify?

Eligible Employment

A genuine job offer from an approved Australian employer, with nomination for an occupation that meets the applicable Subclass 482 requirements.

Skills & English

Relevant qualifications and work experience suited to the nominated role, plus the required level of English unless an applicable exemption applies.

Health, Character & Licensing

Meet Australia’s health and character requirements, hold any required occupational licence or registration, and satisfy the relevant legislative criteria when a decision is made.

Our Process

From Your First Assessment to Lodgement

Start with the right pathway

Before preparing your application, your circumstances are reviewed against the relevant Subclass 482 requirements. This includes your Australian employment offer, nominated occupation, qualifications, experience and other factors that may affect eligibility. Identifying these requirements early can help address potential gaps before the application progresses.

We consider:
  • Genuine employment with an approved Australian employer
  • Eligibility of the nominated occupation
  • Qualifications relevant to the nominated position
  • Relevant work experience and skills
  • English language requirements and possible exemptions
  • Skills assessment requirements, where applicable
  • Mandatory professional licences or registrations
  • Applicable health and character requirements

Once the key requirements have been assessed, you receive a clearer understanding of the evidence and steps needed to proceed with your application.

Build a complete evidence base

Your visa application needs to be supported by evidence that demonstrates your qualifications, employment history, skills and ability to meet the applicable requirements. Documents are reviewed for accuracy, consistency and completeness before the application is submitted.

Your document checklist may include:
  • Current passport and identity documents
  • Employment contract or genuine job offer
  • Qualifications and academic transcripts
  • CV and detailed employment references
  • English language test results, where required
  • Skills assessment, where applicable
  • Occupational licences or registrations
  • Health examination results
  • Police clearance certificates
  • Additional evidence relevant to your occupation

The required evidence can vary depending on your occupation and circumstances. A tailored checklist helps identify what is relevant to your application rather than relying on a generic document list.

Get the employer side right.

Subclass 482 is an employer-sponsored visa, so the sponsoring business must also meet relevant requirements. The employer’s eligibility, nominated position, employment arrangements and supporting evidence all form part of the sponsorship and nomination process.

Employer requirements may include:
  • Eligibility to sponsor overseas workers
  • A genuine need for the nominated position
  • An eligible occupation for nomination
  • Appropriate employment conditions
  • Compliance with applicable Australian workplace requirements
  • Meeting relevant salary requirements
  • Maintaining required sponsorship records
  • Fulfilling ongoing sponsorship obligations
  • Notifying the Department of relevant changes
Employer documentation may include:
  • Business registration details
  • Financial and trading information
  • Employment contract
  • Position description
  • Organisational information, where required
  • Labour market evidence, where applicable
  • Salary information
  • Other documents requested by the Department

The sponsorship and nomination are prepared with attention to the employer’s circumstances, the nominated position and the requirements that apply at the time of application.

Stay supported after submission.

Once the required applications and supporting evidence have been prepared, the visa application can be lodged with the Department of Home Affairs. The process does not necessarily end at lodgement. Further information or documentation may be requested while the application is being assessed.

Support can include:
  • Final review of the completed application
  • Visa lodgement with the Department
  • Managing Department correspondence
  • Responding to requests for further information
  • Providing additional supporting documentation where required
  • Addressing changes that may affect the application
  • Keeping you and your employer informed throughout the process
  • Continuing assistance through to the final decision

Where the Department requests additional information, the response needs to address what has been asked for and be provided within the applicable timeframe. Ongoing support helps keep the application moving through the assessment process.
